Jon Wessels - President

Possessing over 20 years of experience in the life insurance and estate planning industry, Jon has specialized in assisting financial advisors and other professionals in their clients’ estate planning and the funding of ILITs. Jon was a founding owner in Advicon which was later sold to Investment Scorecard, Inc., now Informa Investment Solutions. Jon has been instrumental in the creation and upgrading of the InsuranceIQTM system and manages this business unit for Informa. Jon also serves as a Senior Analyst for the InsuranceIQ production unit and provides consulting on difficult policy scenarios, as needed. In 2007, Jon and his brother Leon Wessels, created Insurance Trust Monitor, Inc., a provider of consulting, management and third-party administration services to trustees of life insurance trusts. Jon has been insurance licensed since 1990. 

Leon Wessels – Founder & Partner

As the Senior Vice President of Sales for InsuranceIQ, a division of Informa Investment Solutions, Inc., Leon has over 20 years experience in the life insurance industry as a producer, recruiter and manager with several insurance companies. In 2001 Leon was responsible for developing the first systematic approach to risk management services for organizations that serve as a trustee over trust and institutionally owned life insurance policies (TOLI). Through his efforts in the last eight years, Leon has developed extensive knowledge and expertise in this area. He has been instrumental in establishing InsuranceIQ as premier provider of life insurance policy risk management services and to date, InsuranceIQ has contractual relationships with hundreds of institutions. Leon, along with his brother Jon Wessels, are responsible for the creation of Insurance Trust Monitor, Inc. which provides consulting, management and third-party administration services to trustees of life insurance trusts.

Michael Brohawn, CFP©, CLU – Managing Partner

Michael Brohawn is a Certified Financial Planner®, a 20 year veteran of the life insurance industry and a Managing Partner in Insurance Trust Monitor, Inc. Before joining Insurance Trust Monitor, Michael was Vice President for Trust Owned Life Insurance Services at The Potomac Group, a well-known boutique firm serving the “high-end” life insurance market. For over a decade Michael worked with Advisors across the country developing life insurance strategies for clients in the high net-worth market. While at The Potomac Group, Michael developed educational programs for trustees and advisors that highlighted the issues surrounding TOLI trusts, as well as marketing programs still successfully being used by the firm today. Michael has developed and presented financial planning seminars nationwide for attorneys, CPA’s and life insurance professionals and has been a featured speaker at industry events. At Insurance Trust Monitor, Michael has developed procedures to maximize Beneficiary values while mitigating Trustee liability. Besides holding the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) designation, Michael is also a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU), and a licensed Life Insurance Advisor in his home state of Maryland.

Jeffrey J. Seward J.D., Ph.D

Jeffrey J. Seward joined Insurance Trust Monitor in 2013 with over 20+ years of legal and trust services experience. He is responsible for all legal affairs regarding the company. Mr. Seward earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts and pre-law from Ohio Northern University, a Master's degree in management from the University of Nebraska, a Doctoral degree in business administration-management from Almeda University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Ohio Northern University College of Law. Jeffrey is “coming home” as he started his career practicing law as an Iowa lawyer in western Iowa, before holding numerous legal and management positions in trust departments for many major banks in the United States. He is a member of numerous Estate Planning Councils nationwide, serves as a trust expert for the Technical Advisory Service for Attorneys (TASA), and holds the designation of Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners worldwide. Mr. Seward belongs to numerous State and Federal Bar Associations throughout the United States. He is a frequent public speaker on the subject of Wills and Trusts and has been published in various professional magazines and journals. He currently serves as an Adjunct Law Professor at Barry University School of Law, teaching courses in "Wills, Trusts, and Estates" and the "Drafting of Wills and Trusts."

Al Kennebeck – Board Member

Alan W. Kennebeck is a retired Corporate Senior Executive from Union Planters Corporation (now Regions Bank). He spent almost 40 years managing domestic and global investment management, trust, brokerage and insurance activities for numerous banking and financial service companies. Alan's career was primarily in trust and investment management. As company strategies changed over the past 20 years he was recruited to grow these businesses as well as integrate brokerage and insurance. Mr. Kennebeck has made himself available to the team at Insurance Trust Monitor to assist in strategic planning and risk management. Mr. Kennebeck has held senior management positions at Union Planters Corp., Amcore Financial Inc. Piper Jaffrey/Piper Trust Co., Frank Russell Company, Bank of Oklahoma and Boatmen's Bank. He graduated From the University of Missouri and has his masters from Webster College in St. Louis.

Deb Galpin – Operations Manager

Debra Galpin came to ITM in 2009 with nearly 26 years of insurance company home office experience at the CUNA Mutual Group in Waverly, Iowa. Deb’s primary responsibilities at CUNA Mutual included management of policyowner tax information reporting processes for the company and serving as a technical resource to home office employees and field representatives on the topics of life insurance and annuity product taxation, trust-owned life insurance arrangements, split dollar plans and Section 457 plans. In addition, Deb worked several years as a Business Analyst and has extensive project management experience. At ITM, Deb oversees ITM’s client service operations. Deb holds anACS (Associate Customer Service), and a FLMI (Fellow Life Office Management Institute) designations from the Life Office Management Association.
